New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday jumped into the religious conversion controversy, calling on those who oppose conversion to bring a law to ban it.
“Bring law against conversion in Parliament if you don’t like conversion,” Bhagwat was quoted as saying by media.
The RSS chief said those opposing conversion of people from other religions to Hinduism should first stop the conversion of Hindus to other faiths.
“If you don’t want to change into a Hindu, then you should not convert the Hindus too,” he said.
He however stressed that those who have got converted due to inducements or force, “we will bring them back (to Hinduism)”, as per ANI.
Bhagwat said the Hindu samaj was awakening and that they need not fear anyone.
“We (Hindus) have not infiltrated into India from anywhere else, this is our Hindu nation,” he stressed.
Referring to Pakistan, the RSS chief said Hindus there have not been allowed to live in peace. “Now see, is there peace in Pakistan?” he added.
Bhagwat’s remarks came hours after BJP president Amit Shah stressed that the party was against forced conversions.
Shah too however today pitched for an anti-conversion law in the country.
“BJP is the only political party in the country that opposes forceful conversion and the so called secular political parties should come forward to support an anti-conversion legislation,” he stated.
Parliament, especially the Rajya Sabha, has been stalled by the Opposition over recent incidents of religious conversions, allegedly carried out by Sangh-linked outfits.
The BJP has denied any role in such incidents.
