Couple are believed to have died after inhaling toxic fumes from a generator in their caravan in Dibba Fujairah

Dibba Fujairah: An Ajman Police officer and his wife were found dead under mysterious circumstances in their caravan in Dibba Fujairah, a senior police official confirmed.

Police said that the Emirati couple are believed to have died after inhaling toxic fumes from a generator which was used to provide power to their vehicle.

The deceased who was identified as Colonel M.K.A.l.N. was working as Director of Al Manama Police Station in Ajman.

Brigadier Ali Alwan , Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, confirmed that a colonel from Ajman police has died in the unfortunate incident. “We have lost a very able and competent officer,” he said.

According to the preliminary investigation, he said the colonel and his wife died after inhaling toxic fumes from the generator. However, he said that police are waiting for the forensic laboratory report.

According to medical studies, when a person is exposed to carbon monoxide, the gas displaces oxygen from the haemoglobin, thereby causing heart and respiratory failure.

The police operations room received a call about the incident on Sunday at around 2.45pm.
“When we discovered smoke coming out from their caravan, we decided to call police, a witness told Fujairah Police.

A police official said the caravan was full of smoke when they entered the vehicle and found the bodies. He suspected that the victims must have fallen asleep when the incident occurred.

“Police described the incident as mysterious, saying that further investigation was on to unravel the cause of death. Police said the bodies have been transferred to forensic laboratory for autopsy.
