Dubai, Mar 19: Various Kannada and Karnataka based organizations felicitated Ashwini Angadi, who has recently overcame her physical disabilities at Spice & Flavours restaurant in Dubai on March 17.
After receiving the felicitation, Ashwini expressed gratitude and said that such kind of felicitation would encourage her confidence to achieve more in her life.
Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi president Sarvotham Shetty organized the event under the leadership of Deepak Somashekara, Shodhan Prasad, Sadan Das and Umadevi Hiremath. Kannada activist Mallikarjuna Gowda compered the programme.
Ashwini was born in to a poor, rural community in Karnataka. Born with a sight impairment, she was very vulnerable to physical and mental abuse and growing up was an endless battle against discrimination from her family, peers and teachers.
She was educated from the age of four at a charitable hostel and moved to Bengaluru for college. She graduated in 2012 at the top of her class. She has received several awards for her work with disabled people and now works with UK charity Leonard Cheshire Disability, which has an office in Bengaluru, where she is based.
Angadi is also a recipient of Youth Courage Award for Education of United Nation’s Special Envoy for Global Education’s Gordon Brown Youth Achiever’s Award.
