An Asian family whose relative died kept her body at their apartment in Saudi Arabia until it was smelt by the building residents as they feared punishment for violating the immigration law, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Residents at the building in the western town of Makkah phoned the police after the stench of the dead woman pervaded their flats.
Police raided the apartment and took the body to the hospital’s morgue while examination showed there was no criminal act.
“The family kept the body at their hope as they are violating visa rules and are concerned about penalties,” Sabq daily said, quoting police sources.
