Muscat: Light to moderate and heavy rains fell in most governorates of the Sultanate today, which led to the overflow of wadis that cut off the traffic in some governorates.

In the Governorates of Muscat, moderate to heavy rains fell in the wilayats of A’Seeb, Bausher, Mutrah, Muscat, Al A’amirat and Quriyat, which led to the overflow of the wadis of Sidab, Al Hamriyah, Mutrah, Al Wadi Al Kabeer and Wadi Uddai.

In the governorate of A’Dhahirah, heavy rains fell in most wilayats, which led to the overflow of Wadi Al Iraqi, Wadi Maqr and Wadi Al Kabeer in the wilayat of Ibri, Wadi Mugzi, Wadi Ans, Wadi Khadal, Wadi Al Raki, Wadi Al Dhahir and Wadi See’a.

Rains also led to the overflow of wadis in the Governorate of Al Buraimi in the wilayats of Al Sunainah, Mahdah and Al Buraimi.

In the governorate of the North Al Batinah, heavy rains fell in the wilayats of Sohar, Saham, A’Suwaiq and Al Khabourah, which led to the overflow of Wadi Al Batha, Wadi Dhagh, Wadi Al Mahmoom, Wadi Al Hawasinah and Wadi Bani Omar.

In the Governorate of the South Al Batinah, rains led to the overflow of Wadi Bani Ghafir, while in the Governorate of the A’Dakhiliyah, moderate to heavy rains fell, which led to the overflow of wadis.

ROP in collaboration with the Civil Defence and Ambulance carried out a number of search and rescue operations for those caught and lost due to heavy rains.

The body of a 60 year old man has been taken out after his vehicle drifted and rolled over due heavy rain at wadi Al Batha in the wilayat of Saham. Four persons were rescued after being trapped at Wadi Hafeet in the wilyat of Saham.

In the wilayat of Saham, the body of a girl who died after being drifted by the water current in Wadi Al Mahmoum was recovered today by one of the locals. A family of 8 members was rescued after water surrounded their house in Al Huwail Al Jadidah in the wilayat of Saham.

A woman was also taken out of her vehicle in Muscat Governorate after she was trapped at one of the wadis near Gulf College in Al Khuwair. A citizen also rescued one person after being trapped in Wadi Al Kabeer water path in the Al Iraqi area in the wilayat of Ibri.

ROP earlier today said that five helicopters have been dispatched today, in collaboration with Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) to carry out rescue, search operation and interfere in emergencies. One lady from the wilayat of Yanqul has been transferred to the referral hospital in the wilayat of Ibri after it was difficult to reach her due to inability to reach her by land.

ROP calls upon all Omanis and residents to remain cautious during rain fall and not to risk crossing wadi unless they are sure that the water level is safe for crossing.
