Actress-turned-politician Ramya’s (Divya Spandana) new role has failed to impress her producers, who are accusing her of delaying their films by not giving them dates to complete the shooting.

The actress had a dream debut in politics when she won the by-election from Mandya Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket in August this year.

At that time she was shooting for four projects – Neer Dose, Aryan, Dil Ka Raja (all Kannada) and an untitled bilingual (Kannada-Telugu) project.

Producers have accused Ramya (pictured left, on a film shoot and right, at Parliament House) of delaying their films by not giving them dates to complete shooting. The actress denies the claims.

Ramya, one of the most successful actresses in the history of Kannada cinema, has achieved a superstar status by being a part of blockbusters since the last one decade. Her absence from showbiz for the past few months has added to the financial concerns of her producers.

Kannada film-maker Vijayprasad, who is directing Neer Dose, alleged that the actress has not given any dates since she became an MP to complete the shooting.

“We heard from the media that she has quit acting. What about the fate of my project? About 40 per cent of the shooting is pending. I am clueless as we have not heard from her since the last three months,” lamented Vijayprasad, who has directed the hit movie Siddlingu with Ramya.

Incidentally, Ramya has been cast opposite another film star-turned-politician – Jaggesh – in Neer Dose. Even Jaggesh lashed out at the actress for allegedly not honouring her commitment.

“She is not taking into account the plight of the producer. This movie has been on the floors since January and we need to complete it,” he said.

Neer Dose producer Sudhir said he was disappointed with Ramya’s attitude.

“We are sitting idle for the last four months. I am paying an interest of Rs 10 lakh every month towards the loan that I borrowed to produce this movie. I had planned to release the movie during Dasara (in October) this year. But now the festival is over. I am in a big financial mess and she has to be bail me out of this crisis,” he said.

Ramya, meanwhile, rejected all these charges.

“I have not told anybody that I have quit acting. I am willing to shoot for all pending movies. Only the Neer Dose team is creating unnecessary confusion. They have been in touch with my manager and we have given them the dates,” she said.

The MP claimed that the director and producer of Neer Dose did not use the dates that she had earlier given to them.
