Karnataka SC (Churchgate) off-spinner Salman Khan finished with a nine-wicket haul (9-72) on Day One of the two-day Mumbai Cricket Association’s U-19 Naren Tamhane Trophy league match against MIG (Bandra) at Azad Maidan yesterday.

MIG comprising players like Prithvi Shaw, Armaan Jaffer, Omkar Jadhav and Rudra Dande were bowled out for 264 in 85 overs. Shaw (98) was the top scorer for the Bandra outfit. At the end of day’s play, Karnataka were 10 for no loss.

Salman scalped MIG’s Shaw, Jadhav (40), Dande (38), Jaffer (32), Dhrumil Matkar (23), Sidak Singh (10), Atif Shaikh, Giri and Nishant Williams. Leg spinner Khizar Dafedar claimed the wicket of Gaurish Jadhav.

Commenting on the wicket, Salman said: “The pitch was flat with no turn for the bowlers. But the six to seven maiden overs that we bowled on the trot in the afternoon built pressure on them. The batsmen played some bad shots which helped me get them out. I kept my line and length and I was rewarded. I hope I am able to continue bowling the same way.”

Even as his teammates headed home after the game, Salman — the son of a Cross Maidan groundsman — stayed back as his home was just across the road. He lives in a tent at Cross Maidan as his father Idris Mohd cannot afford a house in the city.
