KOCHI, June 13, 2013

Two years ago, he returned home to a hero’s welcome after winning the World Cup. On Wednesday, despite coming under the spot-fixing cloud in the IPL and spending 27 days in jail, Sreesanth was given a warm and comforting reception when he came back home here from Delhi.

Friends garlanded him and sweets were distributed when he landed at his sister’s house at Tripunithura. And there were affectionate hugs from his parents, Savithri Devi and Shanthakumaran Nair.

“I think the arrest was part of a conspiracy… it will come out soon,” said the 30-year-old former Indian fast bowler. “I have full faith that only good will come out of this.”

He said he was trying to push away memories of the harrowing days he had spent at the Tihar jail. “I’m trying to forget the last 27 days. I don’t want even my enemies to go to jail, it was such an experience at the Tihar jail,” he said. “[I] am very happy to come back home. I don’t want to have an experience like that again.” Normally free-flowing with his words, Sreesanth was very guarded in his comments today. And with one gentleman standing nearby and prompting him not to comment a few times, the Rajasthan Royals cricketer said little on the case.

Was he trapped?

“I wouldn’t like to say anything on that, on a trap… I am just going to wait patiently. I have full faith that I haven’t done any wrong,” he said.

NO BLAME GAME

Did trusting Jiju [Janardanan] blindly land him in this mess?

“I wouldn’t blame anybody. Now they say that he’s also not in the wrong, so whatever the law decides, let it be so.

“All I can say is that I love this game. I’ve given my very best from the day I started playing. One more thing I want to say, you all can surely trust me.”

He said he would come out with everything one day. “I totally believe in our judiciary. [I] am just waiting for the right time…”
