Moodbidri; Jan 20: After laying foundation stone for 400 metre synthetic athletic track built at Rs.4.50 crore budget in Swaraj Maidan under the aegis of Youth welfare and sports affairs and Kannada Bhavan for Bharat Souts and Guides built at the cost of Rs 6 crore near Swaraj Maidan in commemoration of ‘Alva’s Vishwanudisiri Virasat’, Dr.M.Veerappa Moily,union minister for petroleum and natural gas said in his address that in order to support, encourage and to give scholarship to good performer in sports through sports club welfare fund is earmarked in Petroleum ministry department.
He also said that now the student’s Alva’s college performing well at state and national level and for them according to their convenience scholarship and for the development of basic needs of their sports activities, his ministry is always committed to extend financial help, he said.
Further he said that his dream is to start one ‘’Ratnakaravarni study centre in Moodbidri.In this regard though he was trying to start through Mangalore university, since Chief minister has already sanctioned Rs 1 crore to Kannada and cultural department, it created a problem. He instructed Abhayachandra Jain, minister for youth welfare and fisheries to try to provide through Mangalore University.
Abhayachandra Jain, minister for youth welfare and fisheries said in his chief guest’s speech that works of synthetic track will be completed by coming monsoon. There are more sports students in Moodbidri as compared to any other parts of the state and performing well at state and national level. It is his bound duty, being a legislator of his constituency to provide them basic sports facilities. Besides Rs 66 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of the underground drainage system and work will commence very soon, he said.
B.Ramanatha Rai, district-in-charge said in his chief guest speech that in his constituency also trying to build one well equipped stadium and solicited financial grant from the sports ministry.
Dr.Mohan Alva President of Alva’s educational Prathistana said in his introductory speech that many days’ dream of Moodbidri people is being materialized now and said that all the government facilities given to the students will be constructively utilized, he said.
