Mangalore, Dec 19: Sunil Kumar, accused in the Sumitha dowry harassment and suicide case surrendered before the police on Wednesday December 18 evening.
It has been alleged that Sumitha who was unable to bear with the physical and mental torture of her husband and in-laws, had consumed sleeping pills at her parental home. She was admitted to the hospital on December 9 and died on December 16, Monday night.
Sunil, husband of Sumithra, appeared before the Kankanady rural police, who arrested him.
He was then produced before the magistrate and remanded in custody for 15 days.
Though a complaint was initially lodged in Bantwal rural police station, the case has now been shifted to Mangalore Rural police station.
The other accused are yet to be arrested. Sunil and his family members had reportedly gone absconding soon after Sumitha’s death.
The body of Sumithra was handed over to her family on Wednesday after a post-mortem.
