Mangaluru, December 22: Protest rally was organized on Monday December 22nd, by the members of the Nagarika Horata Samithi and the DYFI against the MRPL from Kottara Chowki to the MUDA office clutching brooms.
Muneer Katipalla, DYFI leader addressed the protestors and said, the coke and sulphur plants of the MRPL have ruined the lives of the Jokatte residents who are facing health ailments and skin problems and urged to shut down the two units.
He also urged the district administration to intervene and ensure the closure of the coke and sulphur units.
He alleged that the residents of Jokatte who had protested earlier against the plant have been booked for no fault and urged to withdraw the false cases booked against the protestors.
B S Hussain, convener of the Jokatte Nagarika Horata Samithi; speaking during the protest pointed out that Jokatte residents are facing problems due to contamination of water. He alleged that since there is no response from the district administration, they had to intensify the protest.
