Lucknow: Former Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh Saturday effectively ruled out the possibility of returning to the Samajwadi Party and said he will instead join BJP if it offers him a membership.
Questioning the secular credentials of the “Janata Parivar” leaders, including SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh put his faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he has been able to achieve what former PM Jawaharlal Nehru could not.
“If BJP tomorrow decides to take my services, I will be happy to offer it to them. But, for coming 10 years, I will not accept any party post as I am not facing any identity crisis,” Amar Singh said.
The former SP leader said he has the blessings of senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and the late Pramod Mahajan. “(UP BJP in charge) Om Mathur and (Finance Minister) Arun Jaitley are my friends and I meet them regularly,” he added.
Praising Modi, Amar Singh claimed, “What Nehru could not achieve in his lifetime, Modi has done in a short period. Due to Nehru, exodus of Kashmiri pandits took place from the Valley and now they are returning under Modi regime. Every Indian feels proud about Modi’s achievements.”
Ending all speculation about re-joining SP, Amar Singh said, “I cannot beg and crawl before them. SP no more follows ideology of Lohia. Its idols, as endorsed by Azam Khan, are Dawood Ibrahim, Abu Salem, Ajmal Kasab and Taliban, who, as per him, funded Mulayam’s birthday celebrations in Rampur. I cannot go to that party.”
Asked about the funding of the two-day mega celebrations to mark Mulayam’s 75th birthday, senior SP leader Azam Khan, who is also a minister in the UP government, had said: “Why does it matter where the money for celebrations is coming from? Some have come from Taliban, some from Abu Salem, some from Dawood (Ibrahim).”
Amar Singh said he was expelled from the SP on petty reasons but no action was taken against Azam Khan and Abu Asim Azmi who had attacked Mulayam several times.
Targeting the “Janata Parivar” over its proposed protest on December 22 against the Modi government, Amar Singh claimed that most of its leaders had taken help from BJP in the past.
