Chittagong: New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum smashed 65 to guide his side to a six-wicket win over Netherlands in the World Twenty20 on Saturday.

The Kiwis enjoyed a comfortably paced win, scoring 152-4 with an over to spare in response to Netherlands’ 151-4.

McCullum became the first cricketer to score 2,000 runs in Twenty20 internationals when he was on 21. Kane Williamson made 26 while Corey
Anderson was 20 not out.

McCullum won the toss and decided to bowl first. Tom Cooper was 40 not out for Netherlands.
New Zealand openers did not play any big shots in the first 2 overs and scored 9 runs. Tim van der Gugten dismissed Guptill in the 4th over to give Netherlands their first breakthrough.

Williamson launched into an attack putting up New Zealand’s fifty in the 8th over. But he got out in the 9th over as he edged the ball straight into the hands of the wicketkeeper Barresi.

Put in to bat first, the opening pair of Myburgh and Swart started cautiously. Netherlands scored 22 runs in first 4 overs with 3 boundaries against their name.

Myburgh hit Netherlands’ first six in this game when he dispatched final ball of the fifth over across the boundary rope. But he was dismissed in the sixth over by Boult. By the end of powerplay overs, Netherlands were 37/1.

Barresi got out in McClenaghan’s first over. Netherlands brought up their fifty in the 9th over. Netherlands put up 62/2 in 10 overs. Borren and Swart then added 19 runs in the next 2 over to take their team’s score to 81/2 in 12 overs.

But just when this pair looked settled, Swart was stumped on the bowling of Nathan McCullum in the 13th over.

Peter Borren did not budge though as he scored 17 runs in Williamson’s first over. With 5 overs to go, Netherlands were 108/3.Borren and Cooper then scored 33 runs in next overs. But Mills ended their partnership in the 18th over by dismissing Borren on 49.

Netherlands eventually scored 151 runs in their quota of 20 overs. While skipper Borren was the top run-getter with 49 runs. Tom Cooper scored 40.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first against Netherlands.

New Zealand have made two changes in the side that faced South Africa. Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham have replaced Tim Southee and Colin Munro in the playing XI.

Netherlands have fielded in the same team that came really close to beat South Africa in their previous game.

New Zealand have won their opening game in Super 10 against England. But in their second game, they were beaten by 2 runs by South Africa. Netherlands have lost both their matches.

New Zealand must be keen to win this game and give a boost to their net run-rate. Netherlands, on the other hand must be looking forward to push New Zealand to the wall and create an upset.
