Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup win on Saturday may help them win the ongoing payment-related battle with their Board.

It is learnt that the players have not signed their yearly contracts because they want a sizeable share of the money Sri Lanka Cricket will get from the International Cricket Council for participating in the World T20 to be held in Bangladesh next week.

The Board sent former captain and current selector Sanath Jayasuriya to negotiate with the players. It is learnt that Jayasuriya spent three hours talking to the players to settle this dispute on Friday. According to a source, Saturday’s win will give the players an upper hand.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews was delighted to see Sri Lanka winning a final after a while. “We wanted to break the barrier between us and the finals. Big victory not only for me but for the whole team,” said Mathews. He added: “Credit to the whole team. I thought the toss wasn’t crucial and Lasith (Malinga) set us up wonderfully. It was a very good run-chase.”
