India's Yuvraj Singh celebrates taking the wicket of The Netherlands' Wesley Baressi during their ICC Cricket World Cup group B match in New Delhi

NEW DELHI: After his superb century in the first unofficial ODI against the West Indies A, Yuvraj Singh has got the ball rolling in his favour. Sources said that if he can prove his consistency, it can boost his chances of making it to the Indian one-day team during the Australian ODI series at home.

Insiders in the Indian cricket board ( BCCI) told TOI that fitness was the key reason behind dropping Yuvraj from the Indian team earlier this year. With his current form, there is no reason to believe that he can’t make it to the team provided he has to show consistency, sources said.

This means Yuvraj has to show his form in the remaining first-class matches — including the Challenger Trophy matches, before the selectors take a serious look at him. Sources said the selectors always had confidence in Yuvraj’s ability in the shorter version of the game. “That is why he was made the captain of the India A team in the one-day series,” a source said.

“If he can show some consistency in the coming matches, he is certainly going to make the cut. There is always a slot vacant for a player like Yuvraj if he is in form,” the source added.
