Micromax Indian Aces kick-started their campaign with a thumping win over their opponents DBS Singapore Slammers in the opening match of International Premier Tennis League (IPTL). The format of IPTL that stages five individual sets played in – men’s singles, women’s singles, doubles, mixed doubles and  past champions singles match saw Indian Aces take four out of five set wins and result of 26-16 game points. The only defeat came in the doubles match featuring Aces Indo-French pair of Gael Monfils and Rohan Bopanna.

In the absence of Roger Federer and Pete Sampras from the Indian Aces camp, the team played well as an unit. Looking comfortable under the guidance of player cum coach Fabrice Fantoro, the Aces looked like a happy bunch of players who cheered their players from sidelines. During one of the time-outs, the side even planed a team slogan of Jai Ho.

Indian Aces after wining the toss, decided to play the mixed doubles match first with Indian pair Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza beating Daniela Hantuchova and Bruno Soars in a nervous, jittery opening match to give their side opening lead. It was followed by match of the day between Fabrice Santoro and Patrick Rafter for the legend’s match. Santoro, a cheery player filling in for Pete Sampras was exceptional with his court coverage and facing the half-volleys.  His uncharacteristic win gave Indian Aces 2-0 lead.

The third match was men’s doubles match that saw Rohan Bopanna and Gale Monfils taking on Tomas Berdych and Nick Kyrgios stumbled a bit as Singapore Slammers registered a good 6-2 win to pull one set in their favour.

The women’s and men’s singles match had Ana Ivanovic and Gael Monfils of Indian Aces beat their opponents Daniela Hantuchova and Leyton Hewitt easily in the lop-sided fourth and fifth set.
