New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC)-appointed Justice Mukul Mudgal committee on Monday declared that BCCI’s chief-in-exile N Srinivasan was not involved in betting. His son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan has been indicted for placing bets during the Indian Premier League’s 2013 outing.
The Mudgal report also confirmed that Meiyappan was indeed a Chennai Super Kings official. He also leaked team information.
Srinivasan was not found to be involved in scuttling the probe into the match-fixing scam, the Mudgal panel told the Supreme Court. But the court noted that Srinivasan and CEO Sundar Raman including the IPL governing council were aware of the betting activities during the tournament but could not take action. However, Srinivasan said he is yet to go through the report.
The committee added that Rajasthan Royals’ co-owner Raj Kundra was in touch with bookies and had placed bets on matches.
The panel – led by Mudgal – told the apex court that Indian Premier League COO Sundar Raman knew the contact of a bookie and had got in touch with him eight times in one season. This paves the path for N Srinivasan to return to BCCI and even seek a second term as president.
