The UAE-based Faizal and Shabana Foundation has pledged Dh3 million for the development of a new engineering research facility in Manipal Institute of Technology, India.
The funding will be used to develop India’s first precast design and engineering course.
Speaking with KT about the endowment, Faizal Kottikollon, chairman of the Faizal and Shabana Foundation, said: “Industry-university collaborations are beneficial for the nation and it helps innovation in academia. This new course will help bring new technologies and help students to contribute directly in an industry which will change the construction sector.”
The agreement will also introduce a precast design and engineering course to the university’s curriculum.
The foundation aims to further precast technology by introducing it to students to advance the field and create employment opportunities for them.
“We are committed to seeing the advancement of this very successful industry and we believe that it has the potential to transform engineering education,” said Dr Ramdas M. Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University.
“We look forward to seeing the career possibilities and opportunities that will arise from this.”
The research and development centre will be set up by the foundation and expertise will be given to the university through a collaboration with Finland’s Lahti University of Applied Sciences.
