BANGALORE: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday warned sugar factory owners of action if they fail to adhere to the minimum support price fixed for sugarcane by the government.

The government has fixed Rs 2,500 per tonne as MSP and offered Rs 150 per tonne as additional incentive from its side. Some factory owners have opposed the government’s decision.

“The factories have to fall in line and pay the MSP to the farmers, else, they have to face action,” the CM told reporters here on Sunday. Meanwhile, assuring to help the farmers, he appealed to the farmers not to resort to any drastic steps like suicide.

Referring to those seeking his resignation following the suicide of a sugarcane farmer in Belgaum, he said: “let them seek my resignation. I’ll continue to work.” The CM said the remaining five days of the legislature session would discuss issues related to north Karnataka.
