Techie from B’lore drowns in Bharachukki Falls

Bangalore, Nov 4, 2013, DHNS: A youth from Bangalore, who was on a trip to Bharachukki Falls in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district along with eight of his friends, met a watery grave on Monday.

Nanjaraju, 25, hailing from Hullahalli in Nanjangud taluk of Mysore district, worked with a software company at Electronics City in Bangalore. Nanjaraju and his friends jumped into the water for a swim, but he drowned.

The Rural police have retrieved the body.

The rainfall was widespread in parts of Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts, while it was sparse in Hassan and Kodagu districts.

Kollegal taluk in Chamarajanagar district received fairly widespread rainfall of 30 mm during the day. Apart from Kollegal, the highest rainfall during the day was recorded in and around Mysore city (22.5 mm of scattered rainfall).

Rainfall was also reported in Hunsur, H D Kote and Nanjangud in Mysore district.
In Mandya district, parts of Malavalli taluk recorded isolated rainfall of 11.5 mm.

Coastal districts

Heavy rain coupled with lightning lashed parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district on Sunday night.

Electrical appliances have been damaged in a few houses at Padubidri in Hejamady of Udupi district. Three coconut trees and a house have been damaged due to lightning in Padubidri.

The roof of the house belonging to Poovappa Poojary was damaged. The walls have developed cracks. A 110 kv high tension electricity tower which was defunct fell on a house at Killur in Padubidri, following heavy rain and gusty wind.

Electricity poles and trees have been uprooted in the area. The tower fell on the house belonging to Gangaiah Poojary. Though the house was damaged partially, all the six inmates had a miraculous escape.

TV, cupboards and other items in the house have been damaged.

A tree fell on the house of T H Abbas and Umarabba in Inoli kana. Over 60 arecanut trees, coconut trees have been uprooted.

At least 11 electricity poles have been uprooted in Pavoor, disrupting power supply in the region. Power supply in some parts of Thokottu, Deralakatte was restored only on Monday morning.
