Mirpur: Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on nature’s call during first ODI against Bangladesh on Thursday. This was revealed by the Indian team manager Biswarup Dey.
During Bangladesh innings, Indian captain and wicketkeeper Dhoni went off the field in 44th over and Virat Kohli kept wickets.
“Dhoni had a nature’s call and that’s why he went off the ground,” the team manager Biswarup Dey said from Dhaka on Friday.
Kohli kept wickets without pads and thus it was clear that Dhoni would return soon. Thus Kohli batted, fielded, bowled and also donned wicket-keeping gloves in the same ODI.
Dhoni returned immediately after the over.
However, there is an instance of an umpire (Dickie Bird) leaving the field in the middle of the match for the same reason.
“I am not aware about the opponent, but in one of the Test matches at Old Trafford, I had to leave the field with the permission of the England bowler,” confirmed Dicke Bird from England.
“I don’t remember much about the incident but I think the bowler was Ian Botham. I spoke to him and went off the ground for toilet and returned soon running down with my hand on pant zip,” the 83-year-old Bird recalled.
