Braving incessant rain that lashed the region till the early hours of the day, thousands of devotees visited Chamundi Hills on Wednesday to participate in the annual Chamundeshwari rathotsava.

The utsavamurthy of Goddess Chamundeshwari was decked up for the occasion and placed on the ratha, which was pulled by the devotees who had begun to assemble at the hill top since the crack of dawn.

The priests chanted hymns and offered special prayers before giving the green signal for the chariot to move. The ratha went along the road perambulating the main temple and the entire process took nearly an hour.

There was a steady stream of devotees visiting the hills throughout the day.

Security was beefed up for the occasion and additional platoons of the police force were present to thwart untoward incidents. The KSRTC operated special services throughout the day for the devotees. The famed Theppotsava will be held at 7 p.m. at Devikere in Chamundi Hills on October 10 and this will be followed by Shayanothsava on October 11 and Mudi Utsava on October 12, as per the calendar of events published by the temple authorities.
