He had scaled a 22-storey building in Bangalore to hoist the tricolour without permission

Jyothiraj alias Kothirama alias ‘Spiderman’, who is known for scaling high-rises and rock faces, was on Friday detained by the Cubbon Park police for climbing the 22-storey V. V. Towers to hoist the tricolour.

As soon as footage of his daring antic went on air, senior officers instructed the jurisdictional police to detain him, as he had not obtained permission for the stunt.

Cops just watched
Police officers, who were initially part of a group of curious onlookers, detained him after he hoisted the tricolour on top of the building on Dr. Ambedkar Veedhi.

He was taken to Cubbon Park police station and released with a stern warning not to repeat such stunts.

It was surprising that he was able to scale the building without requisite permission despite it being in a high security zone.

Why this stunt
Jyothiraj explained to The Hindu that while returning home from Kanteerva Studio after practice, co-passengers quizzed him about his daredevilry.

“They asked me whether I stopped climbing after I became a hero. To prove them wrong, I got down from the bus near Vidhana Soudha, walked up to V.V. towers, climbed it within half-an-hour and hoisted the flag.”

Was his birthday
Sabastian David, a Kannada film director who is casting the 27-year-old in his upcoming ‘Kothiraja Movie’ said he was surprised to get a call from the local ‘Spiderman’ in the afternoon saying he was scaling V.V. towers.

Jyothiraj was taking a break on the 10th floor when he called, the director said, adding that August 15 is Jyothiraj’s birthday.

Jyothiraj, who is from Chitradurga, has often made news with his extraordinary skills. He has even scaled Jog falls in Shimoga district.
