ROSAIAH

Anxiety over an invitation for a press conference by Governor K. Rosaiah here on Friday turned ephemeral as he declined to comment on most of the queries, including political ones, apparently in a bid to play it safe.

“I have not come here to speak on politics,” Mr. Rosaiah, Tamil Nadu Governor who holds the additional charge of Karnataka, told presspersons when they started posing questions. Displaying joviality, he said, “This is not a press conference, but an opportunity to meet you all.”

He refused to be dragged into anything that would turn controversial. To a question he said he would not like to comment on the law and order situation in the State.

“I can’t go on commenting on all happenings,” he said to a question on the sacking of Mizoram Governor Kamla Beniwal. On whether or not his advice was being sought by either the Andhra Pradesh government or the Telangana government on matters relating to administration, he said he was in Chennai and he would not know about it.

However, when asked if State BJP leaders had sought his appointment to present a memorandum against the Congress government over the Arkavathi Layout land de-notification, Mr. Rosaiah said he had not received any such request. To a query on whether or not he liked Bangalore weather, he said, “I am not new to Bangalore.”
