The Sulikeri ordeal has finally ended. The district administration decided, unanimously, to stop rescue operations to bring out six-year-old boy Timmanna Hatti, who had fallen into an open borewell last Sunday. “After consulting experts and gathering public opinion, we have decided to stop the digging,” announced S.R. Patil, the district in-charge Minister, here on Saturday, after chairing a critical meeting on the issue

Mr. Patil said the details of the meeting would be submitted to the Advocate-General. The government would take further action based on the his response. Retired scientist and soil expert Srinivasmurthy, who visited the site, was of the opinion that if digging continued, the vertical wall would collapse. Forensic expert Ashok Kumar Shetty said the boy had probably died at least three days ago.
