Disproportionate assets worth Rs. 9.7 crore found

The Lokayukta police on Wednesday conducted searches on 19 premises belonging to seven government officials in Bangalore city, Gulbarga, Bidar and Davangere, and found assets worth Rs. 9.7 crore that were disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The Lokayukta police searched the premises belonging to A.B. Hemachandra, Chief Executive Officer, Davangere Zilla Panchayat, in Davangere and Bangalore and found that he owned assets worth Rs. 1.32 crore, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income by 97 per cent.

During a search on the premises belonging to M. Venugopala, Executive Engineer, Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. in Bangalore, the police found that he owned assets worth Rs. 76.79 lakh, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income by 120 per cent.

V. Muniyappa, Managing Director, Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation, Bangalore, was found to have assets worth Rs. 2.77 crore, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income by 115 per cent.

B.N. Munirayanappa, Registrar, Karnataka State Nursing Council, Bangalore, owned assets worth Rs. 2.36 crore, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income by 278 per cent.

The Lokayukta police searched the premises belonging to H.S. Prasanna Kumar, Executive Engineer, Devaraj Urs Truck Terminals, Bangalore, and unearthed assets worth Rs. 2.05 crore, disproportionate by 215 per cent to his known sources of income.

Havagi Rao, Junior Engineer, Panchayat Raj Engineering Sub-division, Bidar, was found to have assets worth Rs. 49.53 lakh, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income by 247 per cent, and Syed Nizar Ahmed Wazir, First Division Assistant in Gulbarga, was found to have assets worth Rs. 56.44 lakh, 96 per cent more than his known sources of income, the Lokayukta police said.

Additional Director-General of Police, Lokayukta, H.S. Satyanarayana Rao said that scrutiny of bank lockers and other accounts was pending. Cases had been booked against the seven officials under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, he said.
