Three killed as MUV rams tipper

MUVBangalore, Sept 8:Three persons, including a woman were killed on the spot and as many as 15 sustained injuries when the multiutility vehicle (MUV) they were travelling in rammed a tipper near Yadavanahalli Gate on Hosur Road on Saturday evening.

The dead have been identified as Kavitha and Murugan (both 25) and Manjunath (28) – all employees of Aravind Mills Limited, Doddatoguru in Electronics City and residents of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. The accident occurred while they were returning home from work. Four of the injured are stated to be critical, police said.

The driver of the speeding MUV lost control over the vehicle and swerved to other side of the road when it collided with a tipper transporting crushed stones. The vehicle later toppled on the service road. A child in the MUV escaped with minor injuries.

Of the injured, Kalai Arasi, Vyajayanti and Yellamma are in ICU at Sparsha Hospital and their condition is stated to be critical. Three of the injured have been admitted to Blossom Hospital in Bommanahalli and the condition of one of them is said to be critical.

Malleshiyamma, 31, Anitha G, 42, Prakash, 21 and Meghana (one-and-half year) have been admitted at Blossom Hospital, Parappana Agrahara.

B Ravi, Superintendent of Police, Bangalore Rural, visited the spot. He said rash and negligent driving of the MUV was the reason for the accident. He suspected one of the dead may be the driver of the vehicle.
