From field to track, farmers turn up in big numbers at Raitha Dasara

Scores of farmers took part in different sports events organised as part of the Raitha Dasara at the Oval Grounds here on Monday.

While men had to run with sacks of fertilizers on their backs, women carried water pots on their heads for the race.

Slush race, running races carrying fertilizer bags and water pots, lemon and spoon race, and tug of war for women were among the many games organised for farmers.

In slush race, D.H. Manoj Kumar of Hunsur stood first, Lingaraju of T.Narsipur second and Sagar of Periyapatna bagged the third prize.

Winners of the running race for men were Sagar of Piriyapatna, Prasanna of Hunsur, and Lingaraju of T.Narsipur.

Nagesh of Hunsur stood first in the stone-lifting competition and Umesh of T.Narsipur and Made Gowda of Nanjanagud stood second and third respectively. Malini of Periyapatna stood first in the running race and Nagina Banu from K.R. Nagar and Mamata from Periyapatna stood second and third respectively.

Shivananjamma bagged the first prize in lemon and spoon race, while Bhuvaneshwari and Tara stood second and third respectively. Manjula and troupe from Periyapatna secured the first place in tug of war, while Rajeshwari and troupe from K.R. Nagar stood second. Damayanthi and troupe from Mysore won third.

Raitha Dasara was organised to involve farmers in the Dasara festivities. The sports competitions were held to entertain them and create sportsman spirit among them.

Over 110 farmers from different taluks of Mysore took part in the events.
