The State Government on Thursday maintained that former minister and BJP MLA Umesh Katti’s statement on separate state for North Karnataka will not disturb the unity of the State.

Speaking to presspersons at the Congress party office here, Home Minister K.J. George said that police would take all steps to ensure peace and normalcy in the border areas of the State and Mr Katti’s statement was not a threat to the State’s unity.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and leaders across the social and political spectrum in the state, with main political parties, condemned Mr Katti’s statement on division of the State.

“It is an irresponsible statement from a minister. I condemn it. As agriculture minister during the BJP rule, he hasn’t done anything. He is doing everything else, except discharging his duty,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr George visited the KPCC office and heard grievances of the party workers. KPCC Chief G.Parameshwara had not issued any notice to him to visit the party office, the minister clarified.
