Mangalore, Jul 17: The district and sessions court in Mangalore has granted anticipatory bail to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat who is facing charges of hate speech made in Gurpur seven months ago.

The court granted bail to Kalladka Bhat who delivered hate speech at the ‘Hindu Sangama’ organized on the premises of Vajradehi Mutt of Gurpur on January 5 this year.

Bajpe police had booked Bhat under sections 153(A) and 295 (A) of IPC on the basis of a complaint by Mohammad Usman, a resident of Gurpur stating that Kaladka Bhat had insulted Muslims.

Police had also filed charge sheet against accused Bhat upon investigation. Based on the chargesheet, the court had issued Non-Bailable arrest Warrant against Bhat.

Advocate P.P. Hegde who argued in the court on behalf of the RSS leader said that Bhat was just “citing” incidents to stress the importance of equality. “He just said that Hindus too have a faith system which they respect just as Muslims do. But government was eager to ban only Hindu rituals. And his assertions were not aimed at any particular caste or community,” Mr Hegde argued.
