Mangalore: Inspector Basheer Ahmed of the district crime investigation bureau (DCIB) has been transferred from his post on grounds of dereliction of duty, informed the additional superintendent of the police of the district.
He had been accused of framing Ronald D’Souza, an entrepreneur from Badaje in Amtady village in Bantwal taluk running his business in B C Road Jodumarga, in a reportedly false case related to possession of ganja.
On May 26, D’Souza had parked his car in front of his shop in B C Road. He spotted the inspector and a constable arriving there and pushing in a packet into the car through a window pane which had remained half lowered. Soon thereafter, the inspector had taken D’Souza to task accusing him of possessing ganja.
D’Souza contested his charge, claiming that he had seen the cops themselves placing the packet in the car with a view to trapping him. Following public protests and complaints to the level of chief minister, the inspector reportedly kept frantically requesting D’Souza not to pursue the case. Personal issues might have been the reason for this act.
