Mangalore, Jul 9: Locals of Niddodi are in anxiety due to the strange markings found on stones in Kolathurpadavu in Niddodi village, where a mega thermal power plant of 4000 mw capacity is proposed to be set up.
The markings were discovered by local women when they went to pick some edible leaves on Monday, July 8 evening. They immediately informed about it to Matrubhoomi Samrakshana Samiti members who came to the place and inspected.
The signs were found in white, blue and green imprinted on stones in Thenka Mijar, Badaga Mijar, and border areas of Niddodi. In some areas stones were piled up and coloured signs in dark writing found on them. It is a mystery as to who has etched those signs in desolate hills and for what purpose. Along with the signs of arrows, numbers 971, 974 etc were also found written.
It is suspected that the writings on the stones may be in connection to the thermal project, though none of the local officials seem to be aware. Matrubhoomi Samrakshana Samiti inquired about it with the local tahsildar, the forest department and the local panchayat, but with no success.
