The names of Ugrappa, Saradgi, Jabbar Khan, Jaimala, Ivan D’Souza likely to be officially announced on Wednesday
Ending speculation over whether the government would heed the demand of the Opposition, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party, not to recommend the names of five Congress members for being nominated to the Legislative Council, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday presented a list to the Governor H.R. Bhardwaj seeking his approval.
Finding time amid his busy schedule in view of the ongoing legislature session, Mr. Siddaramaiah, accompanied by some Ministers and officials, went to the Raj Bhavan in the evening and submitted the list to Mr. Bhardwaj.
The list contains the names of the former Leader of Opposition in the Council of V.S. Ugrappa, the former MP Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi, Jabbar Khan (MLC), actor Jaimala and Ivan D’Souza.
According to sources in the Chief Minister’s secretariat, the Governor has given approval to the list and an official announcement of the names is likely to be made on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister was advised by some party leaders and Ministers to present the list to Mr. Bhardwaj before his tenure comes to an end on June 29.
