Mangaluru, November 28: A young married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging because of constant physical and mental torture by her husband. The incident took place at Kairangala near Mudipu under Konaje police jurisdiction here on Friday November 27th.
The deceased woman is Shajida (27), wife of Azhar, resident of Darkhas Compound in Kairangala. Azhar, is a rickshaw driver by profession.
Shajida was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her residence. However it suspected to be a case of murder.
About three-and-a-half years ago, Shajida was married to Azhar. The couple has two sons, Mohammed Hafeez and Anas.
It is said, just a few days after the marriage, Azhar began torturing Shajida mentally and physically. It is also alleged that Azhar is a drug addict.
Shajida’s mother Bi Fathima said in her complaint that, about six months ago, Shajida and Azhar started living in a rented house near her mother’s house in Kairangala. Shajida had tried her best to bring her husband out of his drug addiction, but failed.
On Thursday November 26th, Shajida came to her mother’s house weeping and reportedly told her mother that if something happened to her, she should take care of her two children. This gives rise to suspicions that Shajida might have feared for her life, said her mother in her complaint.
Bi Fathima said in her complaint that she consoled her daughter and sent her back to her husband’s house, soon after which she was found dead.
On the basis of complaint filed by Shajida’s mother Bi Fathima, police arrested Azhar and booked him under section 306 of IPC.
