Mangaluru, September 24: The district Youth Congress staged protest on Wednesday September 23rd against the decision of central government of withdrawing stamps bearing the pictures of Late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
The protestors also shouted slogans against the central government and also locked up the head post office at Pandeshwar.
Mithun Rai – President of District Youth Congress addressing the protest said, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were two great personalities who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of our country. Indira Gandhi had brought about the Land Reforms Act and eight to nine nations have launched stamps in her name. Rajiv Gandhi provided rights to franchise for the youth who attained 18 years of age. He also brought revolution in the sector of information technology. But the central government has withdrawn their stamps, he said.
Mithun Rai also warned that State level protest will be held if the central government fails to restore the postal stamps bearing images of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
Over 200 people had participated in protest.
