Udupi, September 19: Tragedy occurred during the immersion procession of public Ganeshotsav celebrations in Mudradi of Karkala Taluk on the evening of Friday, September 19th; in which a lorry carrying the Idol of Lord Ganesh, suffered technical glitches and ran over a youth killing him instantly on spot while another person was seriously injured.
The deceased is identified as Abhijith Jain (18) who was a member of Moodbidri Rama Nasik Band team.
During the incident, Boggu, a local resident suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to Manipal hospital.

The procession prior to immersion of idol had begun from near Mudradi School. On the way, near Mudradi circle, the lorry which was carrying the idol of Lord Ganesh suffered a break failure and went berserk. Crowd which noticed this ran for life. But Abhijith Jain who was moving with the band team in front of the lorry came under the wheels and expired on spot.
Deceased Abhijith Jain was an auto-mechanic by profession.
A case is registered at Hebri police station.
