Yettinahole Project- Protest intensifies: pamphlets bearing ten queries for people’s representatives distributed.

Mangaluru, September 4: “At least now, we have to awake and protect river Nethravathi, else we have to repent in future”- these awareness words to the citizens of the district are given by those who are fighting against the Yettinahole Project.

The Sahyadri Sanchaya had staged a new kind of protest in front of the Deputy Commissioners office on Thursday, September 3rd. On this occasion, the students of Swaroopa study centre staged a road show to create awareness among the public on the threat to the Nethravathi River due to the Yettinahole Project. A pamphlet bearing 10 questions on the Yettinahole Project was also distributed on this occasion.

Environmentalist Kateel Dinesh Pai speaking during the protest said that if the people representatives do not alert now, he warned that during the coming Gram Panchayat elections, a vote campaign will be held against the parties those support Yettinahole Project.

In the protest, Dr Annaiah Kulal of Kannada Katte, fishermen Chief Ramachandra Baikampady, Yogish Jappinamogaru of  Tulunada Rakshana Vedike, KSP Former State President Harikrishna Punarur and others spoke on this occasion.

Open meet at Roshani Nilaya on September 19th:

Dinesh Holla provided information on the awareness campaign and said the campaign will move to various parts of the district until September 14th. As many as 3,000 pamphlets have been printed which will be distributed to the citizens and thereby encourage the people’s representatives to question on the Yettinahole project. If the people’s representatives give appropriate answers within the stipulated time, we will withdraw the protest else we are on a stand that the project should be stopped. An open meeting is scheduled at Roshni Nilaya College on September 19th, and the people’s representatives should give the answers, he said.

Giving a call to citizens, Dinesh Holla said, today we have to unite to save our Western Ghats, River Nethravathi and Kumaradhara.

Awareness march by Tulunada Rakshana Vedike:

Opposing the Yettinahole Project, an awareness march to protect River Netravathi was staged by Tulunada Rakshana Vedike on Thursday.

The awareness march that began from front of Car Street Venkataramana Temple was inaugurated by Ramachandra Baikampady, Fishermen chief. The march began from carstreet, moved through Bunder, Beebi Alabi road, Central Market, Rao and Rao circle, Jyothi circle, Bunts hostel, Sharavu temple and ended at Jeppu junction.

In the road march, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, leader of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike, Dr K A Muneer Bava, M G Hegde, Hameed Hassan Madooru, Raghavendra Rao and many others had participated.
