Mangaluru, August 27: In connection to the assault that took place on a man at Attavar in the city on the evening of Monday, City police commissioner S Murugan addressed a press meet pertained to the matter on Wednesday August 26th and said that following the incident, 13 persons have been arrested.
Police Commissioner Murugan said among the arrested, some of them belong to Bajrang Dal, one from VHP and few do not belong to any outfit. He did not reveal the names of the arrested persons but said that the arrested people have been produced in court, and remanded in judicial custody till September 7th. They are sent to Ballari jail, he informed.
Police Commissioner said, the 13 accused were arrested after observing posts on Facebook, other social media, phone calls, CCTV footages and information from reliable sources. We have gathered many proofs. Police are on a look out for seven persons, who include the accused and those who supported the assaulters. Oral statement has been taken from the male victim and case has been registered on charges of dacoity, attempt to murder, threat to life, and rioting, he said.
On the day of the incident, the Pandeshwar police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information. The male victim left the supermarket at 5.27 pm, the girl left at 5.34 pm, at 5.47 pm they had a conversation, and between 5.52 pm and 6.10 pm, he was assaulted. The police arrived at the spot within 5-10 minutes, said police commissioner Murugan.
The police have considered this case very seriously. Measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in future, and we need support from the public, he said.
Police commissioner Murugan assured that the case would be investigated in sincerely and the truth will be brought out.
