Extortion calls to businessmen, Kaup police arrest two from Bengaluru

Udupi, August 18: The Kaup police have arrested two persons from Bengaluru who were making extortion calls to some entrepreneurs of coastal districts referring the name of underworld don Ravi Poojary.

The arrested are identified as Rohith (23) and Shivaraj (23), both residents of Dommasandra in Bengaluru.

The duo had telephoned businessmen Stanley from Shirva and Vincent D’Souza from Manipura demanding for hafta.

The duo accused as directed by a person currently lodged in cell, were placing extortion demand using mainly the internet and telephone booths. During the extortion calls, they were using the name of the underworld don Ravi Poojary, informed the sources. The accused were also making calls to the entrepreneurs of Udupi and Dakshina Kannda districts demanding for hafta. As per the information revealed by the arrested accused, the police have launched a search for tracing the other members of the team.

Guided by the Udupi SP K Annamalai, directed by Additional Police Superintendent Dr. Santosh Kumar and DySP Vinay Kumar, under the in-charge of Kaup SI Sunil Y Nayak, led by Kaup SI Jagadish Shetty, police personnel’s Sudhakar, Bahskar and Thomson participated in this operation.

The arrested were produced in the court and have been remanded under judicial, custody.
