Mangaluru, August 15: For holding a protest without official permission, several BJP activists were arrested by the police and later released on Friday August 14th.

On the occasion of the Youth Congress Foundation Day; the Youth Congress had hoisted their party flag on the flag pole bearing the national emblem and meant for hoisting the National Flag. Pertaining to this, a case was also filed against the Youth Congress, terming the incident as an insult to the nation.

The members of BJP assembled near DC’s office to condemn and protest against this incident.

The Pandeshwar police arrived at the venue even before the protest could begin, and took the protesters in a police van even as the protesters shouted slogans.

The BJP Yuva Morcha condemned the Youth Congress and said, the young Congress leaders have insulted our national emblem. As per an act passed in 1972, insulting of National Flag, National Anthem, and National Emblem, are equal to criminal offences. A report has already been filed in Konaje police station, and we are sure the guilty would be punished, they said.

About 29 people were arrested and later released on bail. This action was taken in view of security concerns, and especially as it was the eve of Independence Day, informed the police sources.
