Theft at Mapple showroom: 3 Nepalis arrested, Rs 3.25 lakhs worth stolen items seized.

Mangaluru, August 15: In connection with the theft at Maple store, the exclusive showroom for Apple products at Jyothi- Balmatta and at a supermarket near Bajpe bus stand, the CCB police have arrested three men of Nepal origin and seized items worth Rs 3.25 lakhs from them.

The arrested are identified as Ganesh Sarke (30), Prakash Singh Khatari (30), who works as a security guard in Kulur, and Prakash alias Sher (27), all hailing from Nepal.

In the intervening night between 02/03-08-2015, thieves had broken into the Maple store, the exclusive showroom for Apple products, by dismantling the electricity metre box on the wall and decamped with 14 iPhones, 5 iPads, 4 Apple laptops, and cash worth Rs 1,97,980. The thieves had also removed the exhaust fan and main switch board located at the back of the store to gain access into the store.

In this regard a complaint was filed by the store manager Nitayanand in Mangaluru East police station.

The CCB police began the investigations suspecting the theft to be committed by team of inter-state thieves drew the sketches of the suspects.

The police at first arrested Ganesh Sarke from Padubidri and seized a mobile phone, laptop and a digital camera, altogether worth Rs 3,10,000, from him.

The other two prime accused had already fled to Nepal with the rest of the stolen items to sell them there. The accused had come to Kavoor after arriving in Mangaluru from Nepal via Delhi on August 1st, the police learnt.

On the intervening night between August 1st and 2nd, they broke into Family Supermarket located near Bajpe bus stand by detaching the exhaust fan on the ground floor, and decamped with a digital camera, a tab, watch and other items.

The police also arrested Prakash Singh Khatari who works as a security guard in a company at Kulur, and Prakash alias Sher, currently residing at Kottara Chowki for assisting in theft of Maple store.

It is learnt that the thieves after the theft had given each of the persons who showed them the spot to commit the theft; a mobile phone from the stolen items. These mobile phones were also seized by the police.

The police recovered two laptops, six mobile phones, one Sony digital camera, altogether worth Rs 3,25,000 lakhs, from the accused.

Under the directions of police commissioner S Murugan, under the guidance of DCP K M Shantaraju, and led by CCB police inspector Valentine D’Souza, PSI Shyam Sunder and police staff participated in the arrest operation.

Caution while appointing security guards:

The CCB police said that a few people of Nepal origin working as security guards in the city pass on information about their workplaces to their Nepali friends and assist them in committing such thefts.

The Mangaluru Police Commissioner S Murugan has requested the public’s to check the track record before hiring anyone as security guard or for other work in houses or hotels and submit their details to the nearest police station.
