Farmer Frank Fernandes felicitated by MLA Mohiuddin Bava for avoiding train mishap

Mangaluru, August 5: Frank Fernandes, the alert and quick-thinking farmer who averted a train mishap after he noticed fragmentation on a railway track, was honoured for his heroic deed by MLA of Mangaluru North Mohiuddin Bava here on Tuesday August 4th.

Recently, Frank- a farmer had stopped the Mangaluru-Madgaon Intercity Express on Saturday August 1 after he noticed that the railway track at Bondel-Pachanady had been broken. As there were no red clothes with him, he collected a bunch of red flowers at the spot and used them to signal the train to stop, there by avoided the train derailment and possible catastrophe.

MLA Mohiuddin Bava along with his supporters visited Frank’s residence. Honoured him by draping a shawl and also handed over a cheque of Rs 5,000 as a reward.

Speaking to the media, Bava said, the timely action of Frank Fernandes, a farmer from a rural area has avoided a possible tragedy by stopping a train carrying around 1,500 passengers. His deed has brought honour to the entire district and made everyone proud. We must appreciate him for this deed, he said.

MLA Mohiuddin Bava said, he has already recommended Frank’s name for the Rajyotsava Award. Already the media clippings of the incident has been shown to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and urged him to choose Frank Fernandes for the Rajyotsava Award, he said.
