Notorious interstate thieves arrested in joint police operation, items worth lakhs seized.

Kundapur, July 27: Four interstate thieves have been arrested who were involved in various thefts that took place in mobile, electrical and electronic shops across Udupi district.

Led by Kundapur DySP Manjunath Shetty, in a joint operation carried out by the participation of policemen from different stations, this operation was carried out and the accused were arrested. Police have launched a wide search to nab the other three thieves.

The arrested are identified as Giridhar Lal (21), Manik Chand (38), Prakash (24) and Sunil Sen alias Bablu(18), all hailing from Rajasthan. Prime accused Naturam, Bada Dinesh and Chota Dinesh have absconded and the cops are on a look out for them.

In a month’s span, these notorious thieves have robbed during night in Udupi, Karakla, at mobile and electrical shops at two places in Kundapur.

Police have seized items worth Rs 17.5lakhs, vehicles worth Rs 7.9 lakhs, pistol valued at about Rs 1lakhs and bullets.

Stolen 208 mobile phones valued at Rs 13.5 lakhs, electronic and household items valued at Rs 2.5 lakhs, electrical items valued at Rs 1.5 lakhs, Eicher lorry valued at Rs 3.5 lakhs, Bolero jeep valued at Rs 4 lakhs, Pulsar Bike valued at Rs 40,000, pistol estimated at Rs 1 lakhs and five live bullets were confiscated from their possession.

Serial theft had taken place at Vigneshwara Complex on July 6th, the police while investigating tracked the CCTV footages and found that an Eicher vehicle was parked in the area and radium speaker was installed in that vehicle. Based on these details, the police formed teams to trace the vehicle. In addition, a police officer flew to Rajasthan and gathered more details. Another team was in search of the Eicher vehicle and had searched for it in various places. This vehicle was found in Bengaluru- Hubballi toll. As the accused were not caught along with the stolen goods, investigations were taken up in various angles.

Arrest of accused:

Based on reliable information that the accused were travelling from Bengaluru to Kundapur, the Shankaranarayana police intercepted the Eicher vehicle near Siddapura, and arrested Giridhar and Manik Chand along with the Eicher vehicle, pistol and number of cell phones. Meanwhile the team led by Kundapur Circle Inspector arrested two accused Prakash and Sunil from Gayathri Nagar in Bengaluru.

Notorious thieves:

The arrested notorious thieves are wanted in many states informed the Udupi district ASP Santosh Kumar in a press meet. These Rajasthan based thieves run petty shops and live in Bengaluru. Among the accused, prime accused Naturam is wanted in many states and the police of Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and including the Karantaka’s Udupi, Belgaum and Hubli police are on a look out for him. The accused sell the stolen items from Karnataka in Rajasthan and the ones stolen from Rajasthan in various places across various districts in Karnataka. The thieves use Bolero jeep for escort while Eicher vehicle is used for goods transportation. The Eicher vehicle was hired for Rs 50,000 per month from a Bengaluru based person and they had marked ‘PRESS’ in red colour in front and back of their bike.

Led by Udupi SP Ananamali, ASP Santosh Kumar, and Kundapur DySP Manjunatha Shetty; Kundapur inspector Diwakar, Kundapur PSI Dejappa and Head constables Udaykunder, Ratnakar, Murthy from Karkal Police station, Staffs Prakash, Nagendra, Manjunatha, Ranjith, Gopalkrishna, Shivanand from Karkal Police station, Ashwin from Kundapur traffic Police station, Kundapur DySP office staffs Shivanand and Dinesh and others participated in the operation. There are information’s about prize being declared for the police team which has arrested the accused in brisk operations.

Complex and Shop owners must be cautious:

Already the police had convened meetings in various places of the district and had directed to install CC cameras, sirens in the shop and also employ security watchmen and CC cameras in the complexes, some have neglected it  which has paved way for such incidents.
