Beltangady, July 27: It is reported that a landlord had allegedly cut the fingers of a Dalit youth. The incident took place at Neriya in the tauk on the night of Sunday July 26th.

The fingers of Sundar Malekudiya (45), son of Babu Malekudiya from Kataje in Neriya has been cut. He has been admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru.

The locals on behalf of the injured complained that a local land owner named Gopal Gowda had committed this act. Using a weed cutter machine, Gopal Gowda was said to be cutting the weeds at a spot. It is learnt that Sundar and Gopal had some enmity pertained to land dispute. Sundar objected for removing the weeds from the disputed land.

It is gathered that Gopal, raged over this objection, lifted the operating weeding machine, and poked it at Sundar. Sundar tried to avoid the machine from hitting him, and in the end lost the fingers of his right hand. His left hand is also injured, it is gathered.

A police complaint was registered about this incident, it is said.
