Sharada Wins CIL-Lions Environment Quiz Contest

Mangalore,july.6th  : Sharada Vidyalaya won the CIL-Lions Environment Quiz Contest organised by Centre for Integrated Learning and Lions Club, held at the Lions Seva Mandir in the city on Saturday. The event was held as part of the CIL Green Month activities.

The team comprising of Prajna N Hebbar and Suraj S Samaga of Sharada Vidyalaya won the event which was participated by 21 schools from all over Mangalore. The Runner-Up trophy was bagged by Navneeth and Sathwik Kamath of Canara High School (Urva) while Ankith Prabhu and Anuragh Shanker came third.

Distributing the awards and also launching the CIL `Adopt A Tree’ project, Dr. Satish Rao, Head of Department of Psychiatry at KS Hegde Medical Academy, who is also an avid trekker and nature lover, drew attention of the students on their roles and responsibilities in protecting the environment. He lamented that while people living in the fringes of the forests are still working towards saving the forests and environment, the educated people of the city continue to maintain a `Taken for Granted’ attitude.

In recognition of his contribution to preserving environment by planting and nurturing saplings throughout the city, activist Jeeth Milan Roche was felicitated on the occasion. Roche has the distinction of planting as many as 65,000 saplings over a period of the past ten years.

Under the `Adopt A Tree’ project, saplings were distributed to each of the participating schools which they will be nurturing in their schools. At the end of the year, the CIL team will be monitoring the growth of the plants and awards and certification will be given to the schools who have taken best care of the saplings.

The quiz was conducted by Radio Jockey Arpith Indravadan of Radio Mirchi. Students of CIL Taniha Fernandes and Ridhi Rai presented the programme.

President of Lions Club Mangalore Arvind Shenoy, Executive Director of CIL Sachitha Nandagopal, Environmental activist Krishnappa Bondel, G Srinivasan, President of Lioness Club Hema Rao and President of Leo Club Ahima Shetty were present on the occasion.
