Mangaluru, July 1: The ‘Press Club Day’ was observed by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union and Mangaluru Press Club at Patrika Bhavan in the city on Wednesday July 1st.
Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri inaugurated the event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mohan Alva said, this is an important day for all as media plays a significant role in the social and personal life of all. People trust the media, and make time to go through the news. Media is the 4th pillar of democracy and journalists should not allow this fourth pillar to get rusted. They should always reveal the true messages to the people, he said.
N Gururaj, Former editor of Udayavani Kannada daily said, competition began when more and more newspapers came into existence. Every minute different issue go on, and every hour different discussions take place. The truth should be made transparent to people, he said.
Manohar Prasad, Udayavani Mangaluru bureau chief speaking on this occasion educated the field budding journalists on the methodology of use of language, the usage of appropriate words and the way in which even minute mistakes in translation changes the entire meaning.
Umesh Yekkar, a veteran newspaper collector was felicitated on the occasion. An exhibition of his news paper collections from around 50 years and a palmira manuscript was also showcased on this occasion.
The gathering was welcomed by senior journalist Jagannath Shetty Bala, president of Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union.
Former president of Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union, P B Harish Rai and many journalists were present on this occasion.
