Mangaluru, June 15: Due to heavy rains and a blocked drainage, the parking area of KMC Hospital, Attavar in the city had been waterlogged.
There was reportedly no response although repeated requests were made to the concerned.
Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred who visited the spot on Monday June 15th, personally supervised the work while the stagnant water was cleared.
Due to the heavy rainfall here, the rain water that flows from Nandigudda had entered the hospital parking lot. While tarring the main road next to the hospital, the drainage under it got blocked which obstructed the water flow, it is learnt.
The hospital authorities said that they had informed the MCC officials and local corporators – but both said that the area does not come under them as it comes in between the two wards. When the hospital contacted Mayor Jacintha, she in turn informed the MCC engineer, but no action was taken.
Hence, the Mayor herself visited the spot on Monday, called the officials concerned to the spot and personally supervised the work. The place next to the road was dug and a channel was created for the free flow of drain water.
Speaking to the media, KMC hospital operations head Raviraj said, this problem is being faced since the past four to five days. We had informed about this to the corporation officials and the local corporators but was not addressed. Today, the mayor arrived here and got the work done.
Mayor Jacintha Vijay said, when the road opposite the hospital was concreted, it got raised above ground level. Hence, the rain water flowed into the hospital’s parking lot. Even the drain also got blocked. Now the drain is opened. A new drain will be constructed soon and the road will be closed during the construction. The new drainage has already been sanctioned but due to some technical issues, it has been delayed, she said.
