Mangaluru, June 11: Ganja is being widely sold at Bunder area in the city, complain the public’s. The youths as well as the students have fallen prey for this illegal menace and the Police Department has been urged to take stringent actions against this.
The fishermen at Bunder area allege that mainly in the mission road, Mohammed Ali road, Azizuddin road and Kadathpalli the ganja business is widely going on. Youth, women and even students have become the victims. Some buy this in black while some consume this in public and are found in inebriated state near the sea coast, say the fishermen.
According to corporator Aziz Kudroli, president of Kedukumuktha Horata Samithi which successfully fought against the drugs menace in Kudroli; not only the ganja, but even the hallucinogenic tablets are also being sold illegally, which must be completely stopped.
The ganja sale was also reportedly taking place at Moodushedde near Vamanjoor, Pillaru in Kumpala, Ullal and Deralakatte ground.
Along with the youth, and college students, even the high school students have fallen prey to the drug abuse, explained a local social server.
The ganja menace is not only limited to Mangaluru city, and rural areas but is also spread across the district, said the sources. As ganja racket at Kudroli is closed, it has gained momentum in Bunder and Kasba Bengre, said a local.
According to the locals, ganja business is widespread in the beaches of Bengre. Along with this, the scenes of ganja victims who lie in inebriated state is quite common here. The ganja victims are now seen arriving to Bunder and Kasba. People from all ages have become the victims for this, they allege.
The ganja consumption is not only a disturbance to the society; in addition the abuse will provoke one for criminal activities.
It was published that ganja abuse was the reason behind recent murder of youth named Ranjith near Nehru maidan in the city. Along with this, there are chances that the ganja victims may be the cause for the increased number of mobile theft cases, say the locals.
The locals have warned that if the people’s representatives and the police do not evince interest in curbing this menace, then the people may get into streets raising their voice.
It is alleged that ganja is being supplied to college campuses as well as Magaluru to jail. If this has to be curbed effectively, the police have to work along with the NGO’s. The media should also join hands for the cause. The media should also give importance to such causes, said Dharmendra, the president of Citizens development and consumers forum Mangaluru.
The police have to show interest to curb illegal activities. Drug mafia is going on at international level. I recall that I had once studied that against their rival countries, some strong countries through the drug mafia attempt to make the people drug addicts.
