Mangaluru, March 12: The firm protest of Gregory Patrao from Kalavaru, Mangaluru in his land against the action of the officials who came along with the police, to evict his land had made headlines all over the state.
Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) had informed him that his land had been acquired for the special economic zone. But Gregory had built a temporary shed in his land, lived there and carried on the fight all alone. All these five years, Gregory the case was in the high court. The Karnataka State High Court recently gave the verdict in favour of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), which was allotted this land for expansion programme.
On Wednesday March 11th, officials led by KIADB special deputy commissioner, Dase Gowda, evicted Gregory and his family from their land at Kalavaru. Dase Gowda told the reporters that as per the HC order, 14.27 acres of land has been given to MRPL, and the compensation towards the property has already been credited to the bank account of the concerned.
However, when the officials along with police came to evict this land, Gregory did not oppose the eviction this time.
