Mumbai Dec. 27 :The Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao today said filmstar Amitabh Bachchan conquered the heart of millions of people in India and the world with his ‘culture, character and caliber’. The Governor was speaking after presenting the 2nd Yash Chopra Memorial National Award to Amitabh Bachchan at a glittering function in Mumbai.
Union Minister for Environment & Forest Prakash Javadekar, former Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Members of Parliament T Subbarami Reddy, Jaya Prada and Venugopal Dhoot, Smt Pamela Yash Chopra, Simi Garewal and a large number of film personalities were present on the occasion. Amitabh Bachchan replied to the felicitation. The first Yash Chopra Memorial Award instituted by the T Subbarami Reddy Foundation was presented to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar last year.
The award carries a prize of Rs 10 lakh, a golden bracelet and a memento. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said Amitabh Bachchan reflected the personality, culture and character of India. He said, people do not admire Bachchan for the latter’s acting skills alone. He said people of India adore Amitabh Bachchan also for his conduct in public and personal life, his social commitment and for his innate qualities like decency and humility. The Governor paid rich tributes to late filmmaker Yash Chopra saying that Yash Chopra was one of the finest and most successful directors, producer and scriptwriter produced by the Indian film industry during the last century
